A Difficult Message
My parents are on a cruise ship somewhere in the West Atlantic. I had to compose a very difficult e-mail a few hours ago to tell my mother that her brother passed away this morning. While this was expected, as he had been unwell for a long time it still feels wrong to pass that information on in an e-mail.

She said before she left: "I doubt James will last until I get back",. My mail basically said sorry to pass on sad news but James passed away at home this morning.

Can you get in touch with the cruise company? They may be able to get a "telephone" call through to your parents on the ship. Given the circumstances, I am sure they would do what they can to help.

I managed to speak to her today, she is with my cousin whose cell phone rang when I tried it on the off chance. She is understandably upset but more concerned for his widow than anything else.
